VICTORIA'S STORY
I found myself 350 + pounds at 24. The day it all hit me is still crystal clear in my memory. A yearly visit with a doctor I've had since I was 11, he walks in and says Vicky in one year from now you will be sick if you don't make changes today. I began to cry left his office and that night was at a seminar for weight loss surgery. I chose to have the lap band, after 18 months I lost 162lbs. I went from a size 24/26 to 16. I learned new eating habits, made changes it was my new life style. I was proud of that.
While my physical life was better, my emotional life was a wreck. Going through a divorce and going from a house wife to a single mother working two jobs was rough. Eventually I found myself not eating well, and truthfully not caring. I was watching a TV program about weight loss one evening and heard the person say he couldn't even walk to the mailbox. I began to cry remembering my beginning weight and I asked God to forgive me and said Lord you've blessed me with the ability to walk so I will, everyday for a half hour. It did not take long before I gave myself an hour and was proud to be walking 4.5miles in an hour! A few short weeks later I looked in my mailbox and got a flyer for the YMCA I chose to go check it out since again I was feeling the need to increase my workout level. I really liked the Y. People were friendly, welcoming, and my kids were welcomed even encouraged to workout with me! I began going to the Y everyday after work , I'd walk on the treadmill and use the few machines I knew how to use. My daughter and I would walk by the workout rooms and see the classes but never took one, that is until we met Jerry! He encouraged us to try a class with his wife Kat, my first class was RIPPED! I loved it! I became addicted, never really learning proper techniques to working out I decided I wanted to learn. I hired Kat for one on one personal training. I learned so much, was pushed to my limits, once I even thought I was going to cry; but it was then that she came along side me and helped me 'finish strong!' I also began to take more classes from Zumba to body pump! Ya I guess I'm hooked!
I would love to say that's it, but truth is I worked out like a beast for two years before I realized my eating was voiding my workouts. I started by eliminating late night eating, then moved on to upping my protein, drinking more water, and finally asking myself ' am I really hungry?' After making those changes I lost another two dress sizes! I can proudly say I am a size 12 a total weightloss of 192 pounds. I am not done yet I am still a work in progress.
I have made so many friends Kat, Jerry, Michelle, Eric, Kyra - you all encourage me, miss me when I'm gone and work out with me, and my kids! I absolutely love that I can walk up to Eric and say I have 15 minutes can you help me get a good work out on my arms, and 15 minutes later I am walking out feeling accomplished. Or the so many times I have asked Kat to help with my technique, or said Michelle how can I get this area worked out? Every question answered or new exercises shown! I truly am blessed and feel loved every time I walk in those doors! I have become passionate about working out. I love pushing myself to my limits, and thank every person that has helped me in my journey.
